Meet the Teacher

I graduated summa cum laude from Dickinson College with degrees in Spanish and Latin American Studies. I spent a winter term in Havana, Cuba; a semester in Málaga, Spain; and an additional semester in Querétaro, Mexico. I have also studied in Costa Rica, Guadalajara, and Madrid. My Master of Arts degree from Middlebury College is in Spanish with a concentration in Hispanic literature.

After many years of study and two visits to France, I spent a summer in Montréal and another at the Middlebury College École Française prior to earning certification to teach French.

The 2020-2021 school year is my sixteenth in education, all in the South Middleton School District. I began my career at Yellow Breeches Middle School. At the high school I teach introductory French and Spanish courses as well as upper level Spanish electives, including AP Spanish Language & Culture. I am also the case manager of gifted students in grades 9-12.

In 2010, I successfully completed the requirements for National Board Certification. I currently serve as the World Language Department Chair and advisor of the Spanish Club and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
I am the treasurer of the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association and the chair of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. I am also an adjunct faculty member at Harrisburg Area Community College.

I am proud of my immersion approach to language education in which my classes are conducted in the target language. Together with my department colleagues, I constantly strive to ensure that my lessons are meaningful, authentic, and engaging. The World Language Department’s courses are aligned to the district’s mission to “empower all students to become lifelong learners and productive, respectful citizens of our diverse and changing world” and to the World-Readiness Standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
